Craig Harwood just completed the first run of his play 'Carmen Live or Dead' at the Butterfly Theater in Melbourne where it received standing ovations. 'Excuse me, there's a Faggot in My Closet', a musical that Harwood has written the book and co-written the lyrics for concluded a successful two week workshop last year and recently had a reading with composer Sxip Shirey and director Darren Katz. He has written several plays including, 'Pink' and 'Trick or Treat' and 'Sex Drugs and Nuclear War'.  

He is also the writer and director of 'Anchovies', a short film completed in 2016 which has played in film festivals across the country including the Palm Beach International Film Festival 2016, Wicked Queer Boston LGBT Film Festival 2016, NewFest NYC's LGBT Film Festival 2017, Workers Unite Film Festival 2017, Translations Seattle Transgender Film Festival 2017 and the London International Short Film Festival 2017. Harwood is currently in production as the director of a short documentary/art film following the transformational work of the Oneness Center in NYC. In 2007, Harwood began work on a documentary about Christine Jorgensen, the first famous transsexual from 1953. That documentary evolved into a feature film project called “The Most Famous Woman in the World” which won best screenplay in 2009 at Newfest as well as being accepted into Outfest’s prestigious screenwriters lab in Los Angeles. 

In addition, Mr. Harwood has been a successful producer. In 1998, Mr. Harwood produced 'Dream Analysis', a critically acclaimed and award winning off-Broadway play by the Mark Dendy Dance and Theater Company in NYC. In 2004, 'Paternal Instinct', a documentary about two gay men who have a child with a surrogate mother, premiered on HBO/Cinemax. It won numerous awards including the Audience Award for Best Feature at the 2004 New York Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. Harwood’s last documentary, 'Gender Rebel', premiered on Logo in 2006, followed the lives of three biological females who don’t consider themselves either male
or female, but something in between.
 
Craig Harwood is also a proud member of The Creative Resistance, an organization started by artists and activists to create content to combat the false news that is now overwhelming our democracy.

Education

Craig Harwood has been writing plays and screenplays for the past 12 years. He has studied with such well-known teachers as Maria Irene Fornes, Rogelio Martinez, Robert McKee and John Truby. He has taken intensives at Sewannee University, Sarah Lawrence, New Dramatists and Columbia University.
